Good lighting does more than light a room: it shapes the atmosphere and becomes an art object in its own right. Our lighting collection brings together bronze table lamps, light sculptures, pendant lights, hanging lanterns, candelabra and wall lights, all made by hand. Each is a new piece, designed in a historical manner such as Art Deco or Empire. See also our classic pendant lights and our Empire-style candelabra.

The studio behind the lighting

The lighting comes from Kuzco Art Maison, an Amsterdam art studio, dealer and gallery. Its director, Lilly-Ann de Zeeuw, MA, is an artist, curator and art historian (UvA and VU), and every piece grows out of art-historical study and a practised eye. The aim is to make art accessible: handmade objects in bronze, marble and porcelain, built to last.

A room at home deserves the same attention as a gallery wall. Lilly-Ann's commissions include a solid gold sculpture made for GoldRepublic in 2025, among the largest of its kind in Europe. For a long time the studio worked only for interior professionals; from 2026 private clients can buy directly as well. More about the studio is on the page About us.

Bronze lamps as light sculptures

A lamp becomes a light sculpture when the light and the form are one and the same. Many of these lamps are sculptures first: a patinated bronze body carries the lamp holder, instead of an ordinary stand topped by a shade. The light then brings out the modelling, the volumes and the patina, just as it would on a bronze figure. That kinship with sculpture sits at the heart of the collection; see also our bronze sculptures, several of which are close relations of these sculptural lamps.

Art Deco table lamps in bronze

Our Art Deco bronze lamps take up the pared-down, geometric language of the 1920s and 1930s: stylised animal or human figures on a marble or bronze base. What draws us to the style is its union of craftsmanship and modern clarity, a standard close to our own.

  • 'Le Phoque': a bronze light sculpture in the form of a seal, in the line of Art Deco animal figures.
  • The figure as lamp stand: the bronze body carries the light, so that sculpture and lamp form a single object.
  • Reduced bases: smooth or stepped plinths in the geometric manner of the period, which give the figure a calm footing.

All these pieces are new creations in the Art Deco style.

Pendant lights and lanterns for the ceiling

Pendant lights take the light up high, to the centre of a room or over a stairwell. Drawing on Louis XVI-style models and on country-house lanterns, most of them combine bronze and glass for a light that is diffused yet defined. A classic pendant light draws the eye and sets the scale of the room.

Explore our classic pendant lights, among them the Mathilde, Aurelia and Lumière Royale lanterns and the globe pendant.

Hanging lanterns for the hall and the staircase

A lantern greets visitors at the door: it is the first light seen on stepping inside. Our lanterns, with bronze frames enclosed in glass, follow the classic form of the hall and staircase lantern and give a sheltered, soft and enveloping light. In an entrance hall, a stairwell or above a console table, a lantern brings the feel of a country house at once.

Lanterns such as the Mathilde and the Aurelia belong to the collection of classic pendant lights.

Empire-style candlesticks and candelabra

Empire-style candlesticks and candelabra carry forward the decorative repertoire of the French First Empire, with caryatids, palmettes, sphinxes and winged figures in gilded or patinated bronze. The style took shape in the early nineteenth century and borrowed its models from classical antiquity. The candelabra are often sold in pairs, to frame a chimneypiece, a console table or a dining table.

  • Caryatids: female figures supporting the candle arms, in the spirit of the Empire style.
  • Palmettes and sphinxes: motifs from antiquity, in gilded or patinated bronze, typical of the Empire repertoire.
  • Girandoles: candelabra in the French style rather than the Empire, hung with cut-crystal drops that multiply the light.

Classic bronze wall lights

A wall light brings the light to the wall at eye level, where a pendant alone is not enough. Our bronze wall lights, such as the Les Ailes Noires pair in the Empire style, light a corridor, frame a mirror or a chimneypiece and create pools of warm light. Fitted in pairs, they give a wall its symmetry.

Bronze, glass and crystal: the materials of our lamps

Bronze, glass and crystal are the three main materials of the collection, and each has its own part to play in the light. Bronze, cast and patinated by hand, forms the body and carries the structure; glass encloses the lantern and softens the light; crystal, cut into drops, catches the light and multiplies it. Gilding, finally, warms the reflections on the Empire-style pieces.

  • Bronze: structure and patina in the lamps, lanterns and candelabra.
  • Glass: globes and glass panels, for a soft, sheltered light.
  • Crystal: the drops on the girandoles, which return the light in sparkles.

Fittings and installation: E27 or E14 lamp holders

The lamp holder depends on the model: the globe pendant has an E27 holder and the hanging lanterns have E14 holders, as stated on their product pages. Pendant lights are connected at the ceiling, and we recommend having them installed by a qualified electrician.

  • Lamp holder: E27 or E14 depending on the model, as listed on each product page.
  • Pendant lights: connected at the ceiling; dimensions are given for each model.
  • Installation: best left to a qualified electrician.

Caring for bronze lamps

With simple care a bronze lamp keeps its looks for many years. Dust the bronze with a soft cloth, without moistening it, and now and then apply a colourless microcrystalline wax to protect the patina. Switch off and unplug the lamp before cleaning it, and avoid harsh cleaning products, which damage patina and gilding.

Frequently asked questions about lighting and bronze lamps

Are the lamps antiques or new pieces?

All the lighting is new and made by hand, in historical styles such as Art Deco or Empire. Each lamp is a new piece inspired by historical models and is presented as such.

Which lamp holders do the lamps use?

It depends on the model. The globe pendant has an E27 lamp holder; the hanging lanterns have E14 holders. The detail is given on the product page of each of these lights.

Which bulbs can be used?

Choose a bulb that matches the lamp holder stated on the product page (E27 for the globe pendant, E14 for the lanterns).

Is a pendant light easy to install?

A pendant light is connected at the ceiling; for a safe installation we recommend a qualified electrician. Dimensions and hanging details differ from model to model and are shown on each product page.

What is the difference between a table lamp and a light sculpture?

A table lamp gives light from a stand; a light sculpture is first of all a bronze sculpture that carries the light. Le Phoque, the seal lamp, is one example.

What is an Empire-style candelabrum?

A candlestick with two or more arms decorated with motifs from antiquity, such as caryatids, palmettes or sphinxes, usually in gilded bronze. Ours are new pieces made in the Empire manner and are often sold in pairs.

How should a bronze lamp be cared for?

With a soft, dry cloth for the dust and, from time to time, a thin coat of colourless microcrystalline wax on the bronze. Avoid harsh cleaners: they spoil the patina and the gilding.

Can private clients buy lamps?

Yes. Since 2026 the online shop has also served private clients, with fourteen days in which to withdraw. Professionals order through their own trade account.

Where can the lighting collection be seen in person?

At the gallery in Amsterdam, Hekelveld 1-1, by appointment. The complete collection is always online.

How is a heavy lamp shipped?

Each piece is well protected and sent by insured art transport to any destination in Europe; pieces above 30 kg are palletised. The product page lists weight and dimensions.

Who makes the lighting at Kuzco Art Maison?

It is made by Kuzco Art Maison, the Amsterdam art studio and gallery whose director, Lilly-Ann de Zeeuw, MA, is an artist, curator and art historian. Every lamp starts with research into its historical model.

Are lamps also sold in pairs?

Yes. Several of the candelabra, wall lights and girandoles are sold in pairs, to frame a chimneypiece, a mirror or a console table symmetrically.

Advice on materials, installation and placement is gladly given to anyone considering a lamp. Write to us, or visit the gallery in Amsterdam by appointment.
