French-Style Girandoles – Pair, Bronze and Crystal

This pair of French-style girandoles joins patinated bronze to cut crystal: each girandole has six candle arms hung with prism drops that break the light into small sparks.

From a fluted, domed round foot and a collar of leaves, a short stem rises to six scrolled arms, each with a square drip pan and a cylindrical candle cup. Long faceted prisms and octagonal beads hang from the pans. Above them a clear glass shaft in baluster sections carries two tiers of curved hooks with leaf-shaped drops, and a tall crystal spire, cut like an obelisk, crowns the whole. The bronze has a warm, aged tone with lighter highlights where it catches the light.

A print titled Girandolle in the Victoria and Albert Museum was published in Paris around 1745 by Gabriel Huquier after a design by the goldsmith and architect Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier; there the branches are porcelain mounted in gold.

Each girandole is newly made by hand. At 62 cm high and 32 cm across, set along the centre of a long dining table a third of the way in from each end, they leave the middle free for dishes, and with the candles lit the drops scatter light over the cloth.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
