Les Ailes Noires is a pair of Empire-style wall candelabra (wired for electric light), modelled as winged figures who reach up to carry a tall, many-armed candelabrum. The design looks to the lavish taste of the Napoleonic period (1804–1815), when neoclassicism and symmetry met a bold, imposing decorative language.

Each piece is cast in patinated bronze with gilt detail. Twelve light arms are borne by the winged figures, who are finely modelled in the musculature and anatomy and set on a gilt acanthus wall bracket. The dark patinated bodies set against the gilded mounts is a stylistic choice central to the Empire style, used in the past by masters such as Pierre-Philippe Thomire and Claude Galle. The gilt ornament of symmetrical acanthus leaves and rocaille detail recalls the Louis XVI style.

Wall candelabra like these were originally made for palaces, grand salons and stately country houses, where they served as status pieces. The pair is decorative as much as functional, and suits interiors that can carry a strong note of the French imperial style.
