Classic Pendant Lights
Classic pendant lights made by hand: three bronze hanging lanterns in the Louis XVI style, the Lumière Royale, Aurelia and Mathilde, a Victorian-style globe pendant in bronze and glass, and a star-shaped Art Deco pendant with frosted glass spikes. Lamp holders and dimensions are listed on each product page.
Buying classic pendant lights: hanging lanterns and bronze pendants
Kuzco Art Maison offers classic pendant lights made by hand in bronze, nickel-plated metal and glass, drawing their vocabulary from art history and designed for interiors today. There are bronze hanging lanterns in the Louis XVI style, a Victorian-style globe pendant and a star-shaped Art Deco pendant: lights that become the centre of a room. Each model is chosen through art-historical research under Lilly-Ann de Zeeuw, MA, and made by hand; all are newly made, after historical models. The collection forms part of our wider range of lighting.
What is a classic pendant light? From hall lantern to Art Deco
The classic pendant light goes back to the hall and staircase lantern that spread through eighteenth-century houses. The collection brings together that tradition and related styles:
- Louis XVI style – neoclassical, with festoons, fluting and a calm symmetry.
- Classic lantern – a bronze case, closed or partly open, whose glass softens the light.
- Victorian-style globe pendant – a glass sphere held in a bronze mount.
- Art Deco pendant – a graphic, radiating form, like a star.
A lantern gives a warm, concentrated light and is looked at like a sculpture; a chandelier, or an open pendant such as the Art Deco star, spreads the light more widely and fills the room.
Our classic ceiling lights, model by model
- Lumière Royale, a Louis XVI-style bronze lantern; Aurelia, a hall lantern with festoons and tassels and Mathilde, a lantern with engraved glass and Louis XVI bows: three cylindrical lanterns in patinated bronze, each with its own ornament.
- Triomf, a classic bronze hanging lantern: lanterns of this kind suit an entrance hall or the well of a staircase.
- Globe pendant in bronze and glass, Victorian style: a clear glass sphere encircled by bronze ribs.
- Starburst Art Deco pendant with frosted glass spikes: frosted glass spikes radiating from a nickel-plated body.
Where buyers of a classic pendant light most often go wrong
The most common mistake is misjudging scale. A lantern that looks large in a photograph can be lost in a high stairwell or over a long dining table, while a pendant that is too big overwhelms a small hall. It pays to measure the room and the ceiling height and to allow for the length of the chain. The second mistake is to look only at price: cheap pendants are often made of thin, light metal with a sprayed finish that soon fades, whereas bronze is heavy and keeps its looks for years. Our pendants are made by hand, most of them in bronze and glass: light sculptures built to last.

Frequently asked questions about classic pendant lights
What exactly is a classic pendant light?
A light suspended from the ceiling in a historical style, such as a bronze lantern in the Louis XVI manner or a Victorian-style globe pendant. Its forerunner is the hall and staircase lantern. Ours are new pieces made in that style.
What is the difference between a lantern and a chandelier?
A lantern encloses the light in a glass case, closed or partly open: it gives a warm, directed light and works like a sculpture. A chandelier has several arms or a more open form and spreads the light through the whole room. The Starburst has no arms, but its glass spikes create the same broad effect.
Which styles does the collection include?
Above all the Louis XVI style (neoclassical, with festoons and fluting), the classic bronze lantern, the Victorian-style globe pendant and a star-shaped Art Deco pendant.
What are the pendants made of?
Most are in patinated bronze and glass, made and finished by hand; the Starburst combines nickel-plated metal and frosted glass. Bronze is heavy and durable, and glass diffuses the light softly.
Where should a classic pendant light hang?
In the entrance hall, over a stairwell or above the dining table. Measure the ceiling height and the room, and choose the size and chain length accordingly; each product page gives the exact dimensions.
What does a classic pendant light cost?
Prices vary with size and model; each product page shows the current one.
Can private clients buy, and how is delivery arranged?
Yes. Since 2026 private clients can buy directly from the online shop, with fourteen days' right of withdrawal. Every pendant is packed with care and shipped insured across Europe.
Where can the pendants be seen in person?
By appointment, at the Hekelveld 1-1 office and gallery in Amsterdam or at the workshop in Bleiswijk. The full collection is always online.
