This pair of Empire-style caryatid candelabra looks to the French bronze work of the Napoleonic period in the early nineteenth century. Each is cast in patinated bronze with gilt detail and modelled as a neoclassical winged Victory figure, gilt candle branches in hand.

The caryatids, in pleated robes, hold torch-shaped light arms, while a richly detailed four-arm candelabrum rises overhead. The arms carry classic Empire ornament such as palmettes and lotus leaves, and the figures hold small drip-pans. The plinth is red marble, finished with gilt-bronze mounts that include classical lyres and palmettes, a nod to the decorative idiom of well-known bronziers such as Pierre-Philippe Thomire and François Rémond. Sold as a matched pair.

These commanding French candelabra suit classical interiors and formal salons, set on a mantel or console where a pair can be shown to full effect. A collector's pair that carries real style and history into a room.
