Versailles Garden Urns in White Marble - Pair

This pair of white marble garden urns is hand-carved after the vases in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Each takes the Medici urn form, with a wide flared lip, a figural relief frieze and a fluted socle.

The bacchic mask handles, acanthus leaves and egg-and-dart edging are cut by hand throughout, and the bright white marble shows the depth of the carving. As a matched pair they read as a single grand gesture.

Substantial in scale, they suit a terrace, entrance or formal garden, flanking steps or a doorway in the French classical manner. They work equally well as architectural pieces in a large hall.
