David Liang (b.1976) carves marble with unusual precision. His works, made entirely by hand, draw on a deep knowledge of art history and considerable technical skill.

One of his most intriguing pieces, Time Machine, gives form to the scientific idea of a wormhole. Wormholes are theoretical connections in space-time that bring distant points in the universe closer, as though space and time were folded over on themselves.

Carved in black veined marble, Time Machine renders this idea through flowing apertures that link past, present and future, like a gateway between two worlds. The pierced, biomorphic form is polished smooth and rests on an integral foot, where the artist's signature is cut. It carries a sense of time and continuity, and suits both modern and classical interiors. This is edition 2 of 6.
