Hand-carved from white marble with fine grey veining, this temple model takes up the three Corinthian columns and the corner of entablature that survive in the Roman Forum from the Temple of Vespasian and Titus. A black plinth sets the pale stone clearly apart from its surroundings.

Begun in AD 79, the temple stands in the city where Grand Tour travellers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries often stayed for months. They returned with marble busts, paintings and prints of classical antiquity for their libraries, and marble models of the city's buildings were part of that tradition; an Italian example of this very temple, dated around 1870, has been on show at the SFO Museum in San Francisco.

Every new model is worked entirely by hand, down to the acanthus capitals, the frieze with its cut letters ESTITVER, the dentils and egg-and-dart moulding of the cornice and the small figures and rosette in relief on the side frieze. A short flight of steps is cut into one corner of the ashlar podium.

At 63 cm high, it suits a partners' desk in a study or a console against a dark painted wall, where the white columns catch the light. A version with a sand-coloured coating is also available.
