This marble torso of a Roman figure is carved in white marble and carries the strength of classical antiquity. The nude, muscular form is draped with a cloak, the paludamentum, gathered over one shoulder, in the heroic statue type used for emperors and gods.

Set on a deep black marble base, the torso makes a clear contrast that brings out the modelling of the chest and the fall of the drapery. Subtle differences of texture across the marble create a play of light and shadow over the surface.

It is carved entirely by hand in the long classical tradition, and the fragmentary form, mounted on its plinth, reads as a considered gallery piece for a hallway, study or living room.
