Roman Marble Bath - Grand Tour Sculpture

This miniature Roman bath is carved in fine white veined marble and raised on four hand-cut lion-paw feet. It is a Grand Tour sculpture, the kind of scaled-down model of an antique marble that travellers once brought home from Rome.

The lion-head masks and ring handles on each side echo the decorative vocabulary of Roman stonework, carved with a soft, aged tone. The bath sits on a grey veined marble plinth that lifts it and frames the paw feet.

It works as a sculptural object on a console or shelf, and can also be used as a decorative vessel for displaying objects in a classical interior.
