Roman Emperors Marble Medallions - Set of 4

This set of four marble medallions shows the profile portraits of the Roman emperors Caligula, Caesar, Claudius and Augustus. Each white marble relief is set against a dark marble ground that frames the classical outline, in the tradition of the portrait galleries of the Caesars favoured in neoclassical interiors.

Every medallion is hand-carved, with the laurel wreaths, drapery and facial features picked out in crisp detail. Each one measures 48 cm high and 38 cm wide, a substantial scale that gives the group real weight on the wall.

Hung as a quartet they make a clear neoclassical statement, well suited to a study, hallway or gallery wall where a sense of history is wanted.
