Meiping Plum Vase - Blue and White Dragon

This hand-painted Chinese porcelain meiping (plum) vase carries a classic blue and white design of a dragon among stylised clouds. The form is unmistakable: broad, high shoulders that taper to the foot and a very small mouth. The dragon stands for strength and good fortune in the Chinese tradition.

The vase is made from a mix of kaolin and petuntse and fired at 1400°C, giving an extremely hard ceramic and a clear ring. The porcelain has the typical pale-green glow and the subtle imperfections that come with the antique finish.

The narrow neck makes this vase ideal for a single flowering branch. As a standalone object on a sideboard or in an alcove, the strong meiping shape also comes into its own. Sold as a single piece.
