Medusa Head in Rosso Levanto Marble

This marble head of Medusa draws on Greek mythology, in which she was a powerful and ambiguous figure, at once protective and fearsome. The sculpture follows antique models in the tradition of the calm, beautiful Medusa Rondanini, where her head served as an apotropaic emblem: an image meant to ward off harm and project strength.

The head is hand-carved from Rosso Levanto marble, and the natural white veining of the red stone brings tension and movement to the surface. The snakes that form her hair coil rhythmically around the face, while the features stay composed and classical. It rests on a contrasting turned base of white marble.

It is made in the Grand Tour manner, a collectable object that carries classical antiquity into the modern interior. It sits well in luxury homes, hotels, galleries and museum settings.
