Marble Lion with Heraldic Shield

This marble lion reclines with one forepaw resting on an upright, blank shield, hand-carved from cream-coloured marble with soft beige veining and a smooth finish. The head is raised, the mouth slightly open, and the mane falls in long, wavy locks.

The pose is the classic form of the guardian lion with a shield. It belongs to the European heraldic tradition, in which lions have stood beside a coat of arms as watchmen and protectors since the Middle Ages, often in pairs on either side of an entrance or a hearth as a sign of strength and vigilance. The empty field of the shield leaves room for the imagination, or for a personal touch.

Newly hand-carved in the style of the heraldic guardian lion, it has a flat reverse and a depth of only 12 cm, so it can sit close against the wall on a mantelshelf, with the shield turned towards the room.

The cream tone of the stone suits a light, modern interior as readily as a traditional one, and the watchful, resting pose gives the lion a calm and dignified presence.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
