Large Tulip Pyramid George - Blue and White Porcelain

This large tulip vase, or tulip pyramid, named George, follows antique European models and is hand-made from Chinese porcelain. Stacked tiers of upturned spouts rise from a tall square pedestal base with scrolled feet.

The pyramid is built from six separate sections in Chinese porcelain, hand-painted with a floral design in a deep indigo blue from cobalt oxide. The quality of the porcelain comes from pure kaolin and feldspar (petuntse), fired at around 1400°C. That process gives the characteristic hardness you can hear in the clear ring of the body.

Every part is hand-formed and finished with an antique look. Filled with tulips or left bare, this is a real focal point for a hall, dining room or large mantel.
