This hand-painted blue and white Chinese porcelain temple jar is decorated in classic cobalt blue with the Hundred Antiques (precious objects) motif. This pattern of antique vases and scholar's attributes stands for wisdom and a prosperous life in Chinese culture. The jar carries authentic detail, including hand-modelled animal masks in unglazed biscuit porcelain on the shoulder and a blue-glazed Fu dog as the traditional guardian on the lid.

The porcelain is made from a fine mix of kaolin and petuntse and fired at 1400°C, giving a heavy, glassy ceramic with a clear ring. The hand finish and the subtle antique look give the jar the character of a collector's piece. A lasting addition to a console or mantelpiece, equally at home on its own or as part of a larger grouping.

Sold as a single piece.
