This hexagonal blue and white porcelain lidded jar takes its form from traditional Qing-dynasty tea caddies. It is painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous scroll of lotus vines, a motif that stands for purity and perfection in Chinese culture.

At the centre of each facet sits the hand-painted Shuangxi (Double Happiness) character, an old and much-loved symbol linked to marital good fortune, love and lasting harmony. The lid is finished with a classic key-fret border, a pattern that represents continuity.

The jar is made from a traditional porcelain body of pure kaolin and petuntse, fired at roughly 1400°C. The result is a hard, glassy ceramic whose quality you can hear in its clear ring. Sold as a single piece.
