Dragon-Ear Vase - Green Glaze Chinese Porcelain

This Chinese green-glaze dragon-ear vase is a striking piece of Chinese porcelain. It has a baluster body with a flared trumpet neck, and what defines it is the intense green monochrome glaze with the two dragon-ear handles. These handles, with their detailed scrollwork, are a typical feature of Chinese porcelain from certain periods.

The vase is hand-made and shows a fine craquelure in the glaze. That craquelure, a web of tiny cracks, adds to the character of this unique piece. The clear, even green glaze is the standout aspect of the vase.

The dragon-ear handles, also called beast-ear handles, give the piece a cultural and historical note. In Chinese mythology they stand for strength and protection. Use the vase on its own as a colour accent on a shelf, console or cabinet.
