Gold Sunburst Mirror Flamme - Convex Gilded Mirror Ø90 cm

In the Flamme the sunburst mirror takes on movement: long rays ripple like flames as they taper to their points, and between them sit shorter, straight blades with a raised central ridge. Where the Soleil keeps to straight rays, these give the Ø 90 cm outline a restless, flickering edge.

That silhouette needs an empty wall behind it. On a bare stretch of living-room wall, with nothing hung within half a metre of the flame tips, the outline stays legible, in a classic, mid-century or modern room alike.

At the centre, convex glass is held by three rings: a plain gilded moulding, a twisted cord of two intertwined strands and a thin black-lacquered fillet next to the glass. That dark edge has precedents: an English convex mirror of about 1800 in the Victoria and Albert Museum also encloses its curved glass in an ebonised border.

The Flamme reinterprets the French miroir soleil as a new piece, built by hand on a classic pattern. Beneath the gold leaf, the solid wood has a chalky gesso layer and red bole; a light patina softens the high points. On the back, bare wood cut to the flame outline carries a screwed-on metal hanging plate.

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
