Gold Arched Mirror Corday - Gilded Wall Mirror

The Corday is a gold arched mirror with an almost flat top that turns down into two broad, rounded shoulders, while the lower corners stay square. It has no crest and no applied ornament: the frame relies on its profile alone.

That profile steps down from a rounded outer moulding, across a flat band and a cove, to a continuous row of small beads beside the glass. The frame is deep, and the gilding wraps round its outer edge too.

The frame is worked by hand and gilded with gold leaf; on the raised curves the leaf shows fine breaks where a reddish-brown ground comes through. Facet-cut edges on the glass catch the light along the border. The outline is listed as Louis-Philippe, a style named after Louis-Philippe I, King of the French from 1830.

Both sizes are 90 cm wide. At 140 cm high the Corday hangs above a living-room sideboard with a margin of wall on either side, while the 170 cm version, hung low in a bedroom, serves as a dressing mirror. Without a crest, the outline stays quiet and leaves the gold and the bead row to carry the design.

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
