Double Happiness Ginger Jar - Blue and White Porcelain

This Chinese porcelain ginger jar is painted in cobalt blue with the iconic Shuangxi (Double Happiness) motif, a symbol that stands at the heart of Eastern tradition for double good fortune and harmony. The decoration is rich with stylised lotus flowers and fine scrolling vines, which in Asian culture represent purity and a prosperous life.

The ginger jar is made from a fine mix of kaolin and petuntse and fired at 1400°C. This produces a heavy, glassy ceramic of excellent quality with a clear ring. The hand finish and the subtle antique look give the jar the character of an authentic collector's piece. With its rounded shoulder and matching lid, it is an elegant object for a sideboard, mantelpiece or display cabinet.
