This bronze sculpture of a standing baboon is made in the spirit of Rembrandt Bugatti (1884-1916), the animalier sculptor who modelled big cats and primates directly from life at the zoos of Antwerp and Paris. The mantled fur across the shoulders and the heavy, deliberate stance are caught with real observation.

It is hand-made by the lost-wax method, the long and exacting casting process that gives a sculpture of museum quality. The finish is a dark brown, almost black patina that holds the worked detail of the cape and the smooth muscle of the legs. The animal stands on a rectangular bronze base.

It works as a focal point on a console, shelf or plinth and suits collectors of bronze and of animalier sculpture.
