This blue and white tulip vase is made in the Kangxi revival style, drawing on the porcelain of the Kangxi period (1662-1722). The form is a small tulipiere with a tall central neck and a ring of bulb-shaped spouts, hand-painted in deep indigo cobalt with a scrolling floral and lotus design.
The body is Chinese porcelain made from pure kaolin and fired at around 1400°C. That high temperature gives a fully vitrified, non-porous wall, which is why the piece has real weight and a clear ring when tapped. Every part is hand-formed and hand-decorated using traditional methods.
The vase is finished with a lightly aged glaze that echoes the character of an antique original. Use it for short-stemmed tulips and other cut flowers, or stand it on its own as a decorative object on a console, mantel or shelf in a classic or contemporary room.
