Art Nouveau Bronze Wall Plaques – Pair after Mucha

These Art Nouveau bronze wall plaques are a pair in shallow relief, after Alphonse Mucha’s decorative panels The Feather and The Primrose of 1899. Each shows a woman in profile before a circular halo set in an ornamental arch, the two figures turned to face each other.

On the left plaque the woman raises a hand to her face, a flower pinned in her hair against a floral ground; on the right she holds a long feather with laurel leaves and wears a large disc at the ear, with a fine mosaic grid inside the halo. Mucha (1860–1939) first published the two colour lithographs as a pair, and the plaques keep them together.

Each new plaque is cast by hand from a wax model (cire perdue) and receives a warm brown patina by hand, left lighter on the high points of shoulder, arm and cheek. The back is hollow, with a plate and keyhole slot for hanging.

At 23.5 by 9 cm they suit the short stretch of wall beside a doorway, hung side by side at eye level with the Primrose on the left, so that the two profiles look at each other. They can also stand on a windowsill or a mantelpiece.

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
