Art Deco Side Table – Ritz

The Ritz is an Art Deco side table whose burr walnut top is laid in radiating sectors, their fine joints running in towards a dark wooden medallion at the centre. The edge is kept thin, so the pattern reads cleanly from above.

At 65 cm, the Ritz stands a few centimetres taller than a standard side table. Beside a wing chair, that height brings a reading lamp on its 59.5 cm top up to a comfortable level for someone seated.

The legs are flat boards veneered in the same burr. They flare outwards beneath the top and curve back in towards the foot in a tulip outline, meeting at a faceted block of darker, straight-grained wood above a round burr walnut plinth.

For each new Ritz, the veneer for the top is cut into segments and matched around the centre, then finished by hand under a soft varnish that lets the natural figure glow. The table follows French Art Deco, a style for which the 1925 Paris exhibition of modern decorative arts was a turning point; according to the V&A, that exhibition brought together thousands of designers from all over the continent and beyond. The warm tone of the burr suits classic and modern rooms equally well.

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
