Art Deco Side Table – Montclair

The Montclair art deco side table draws on French furniture of the 1930s, where curved lines, symmetry and careful choice of material shaped the interior. The four curved legs that meet under the top are typical of the period: a play of tension and balance that works as much architecturally as it does practically.

The piece is finished in rosewood veneer (palissander), recognisable by its warm red-brown colour with darker bands running across the surface. Rosewood was widely used between the wars for its deep grain and the way it catches light. For the Montclair the veneer is hand-cut and book-matched, so the grain settles into a calm, even rhythm.

The square top has a light inlaid border that frames the surface without dominating it. Its soft sheen comes from a carefully built-up coat of varnish, which protects the wood and deepens its natural colour.

Each Montclair is made entirely by hand by cabinetmakers who work in traditional art deco methods: curved frames are built up in layers, veneer is glued under tension, and the finish is brought up over several polishing and lacquering passes.

Use the Montclair as a side table beside an armchair, as a low stand for a bronze sculpture, or as a quiet accent in a seating area. Its compact size and expressive legs let it sit easily in both period interiors and modern rooms built around good materials.
