Art Deco Side Table – Flapper

Framed by a border of dark reddish crossbanding, the round top makes the Flapper an Art Deco side table that is easy to recognise. Inside that finely striped frame, the burr walnut shows honey tones and dark knots under a high-gloss varnish.

Here the burr walnut veneer does not stop at the top. The apron, the four curved legs and the ring at the foot are veneered in it as well, so the table and its base read as a single piece. Each Flapper is newly made by hand, with the veneer laid to follow the curve of every leg.

The legs rise from the central ring and open outwards to the rim like the petals of a flower; a square black cap and a black sphere mark the point where each one meets the top, and the ring rests on a broad black disc. Its geometry places the Flapper in French Art Deco, a style the V&A notes was known in its own day as 'Style Moderne' – the name Art Deco was coined only in the 1960s.

At 61 cm high and 60 cm across, it stands close to mattress height beside a double bed, leaving space for a reading lamp and a few books. The glossy top mirrors whatever is placed on it.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
