Art Deco Side Table – Charleston

A cross-shaped foot with a dark ebony sphere at its crossing sets the Charleston apart: an Art Deco side table otherwise veneered entirely in honey-toned burr walnut. Clusters of dark eyes run across the round top under a high-gloss varnish, and the thick edge is in the same wood, with no contrasting band.

Wide, flat legs leave the underside of the top and curve inwards as they descend, landing on small blocks at the ends of the four arms of the foot. Each arm finishes in a stepped, squared-off end, and the polished sphere sits where the arms meet.

Set between two armchairs, the 60 cm top holds a lamp and a pair of glasses without crowding, and at 61 cm high it is within easy reach of both seats.

Each Charleston is newly made by hand in burr walnut veneer, with the figure of the wood left to carry the decoration. In this it follows French Art Deco cabinetmaking of the 1920s: writing about a cabinet by Ruhlmann, the Metropolitan Museum points to the absence of applied ornament as part of what made a traditional form modern. On the Charleston, the one ornament beyond the burr itself is that single dark sphere.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
