Rectangular and shallow, the Calloway is an Art Deco side table in honey-toned burr walnut veneer, its figure flecked with small dark knots under a gloss varnish.

Along the front apron, two book-matched leaves of burr meet at the centre, so the figure mirrors itself left and right. The table has a drawer at each short end, with a burr front and dovetailed sides – room for keys, reading glasses or the post. At only 30 cm deep and 78 cm high, it fits against the wall of a landing or at the foot of the stairs, where there is space for nothing wider.

Four flat legs curve inwards from the corners of the apron, and each pair on the long sides traces an elongated U, open at the middle. They land on a central block, also in burr walnut, which rests on a two-step plinth of plain, straight-grained wood with rounded edges.

Each Calloway is made by hand: the leaves are selected and laid mirrored so that the figure stays in balance, then sealed under a protective varnish. Letting the wood carry the decoration follows French Art Deco cabinetmaking: the Metropolitan Museum describes Ruhlmann's État cabinet as a traditional form made modern by the absence of applied ornament.
