Art Deco Console Table – Gardet

The Gardet art deco console table is an example of the structural design that was widely used in France around 1930. It has a clear V-shaped support, a characteristic solution in art deco furniture for combining stability with rhythm.

The whole piece is finished in burr walnut veneer, recognisable by its warm flame figure and the small knots in the surface. The veneer is hand-selected and book-matched so the grain of the wood reads clearly. A clear coat of varnish protects the surface and deepens the natural tones of the burr walnut.

Below the top sit two slim drawers in the same veneer, fitted with metal pulls. They are suited to small items such as keys or correspondence.

The Gardet rests on a layered base set with a thin band of black lacquer, a detail used in inter-war salons and entrance halls to set warm woods against darker accents.

Each table is made by hand by experienced cabinetmakers working in traditional methods. As a result the Gardet suits both period art deco interiors and contemporary rooms where good materials and craftsmanship matter.
