Art Deco Console Table – Armstrong

The Armstrong is a half-moon Art Deco console table: its semicircular top, veneered in honey-toned burr walnut, runs straight along the back so it sits flush to the wall and curves forward in a deep apron.

Between the top and the apron runs a narrow black band, stepped like a moulding and following the curve. Two wide, flat supports in high-gloss black lacquer rise from the base and open outwards as they climb, meeting the apron at either end in a lyre-like outline. The base repeats the half-moon of the top: a plate of burr edged with the same black step.

Built by hand, each Armstrong is veneered leaf by leaf in burr walnut, its small dark knots scattered over a honey ground, and sealed under a protective varnish. Pale veneer played against black belongs to French Art Deco; the V&A describes how geometric forms entered every part of daily life in that period, and here the whole table is drawn from one half-circle, repeated top and bottom.

Only 37 cm deep, the Armstrong stands flush on a stair landing or in a narrow entrance, the rounded front keeping the way past clear, and there is room on the 102 cm top for a lamp beside a dish for keys.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
