Amelie Tulip Pyramid - Blue and White Porcelain

This tulip pyramid rises in three stacked tiers on a square plan, with a round, jar-shaped spout at each corner, and ends in a double-gourd finial wrapped in scrolling tendrils. The whole tapering tower stands 40 cm high.

The blue is painted by hand on white porcelain: stylised flower heads among tendrils, scrolling borders along the edge of every tier and ribbon-tied emblems on the spouts, among them the endless knot. Panels of flowers framed in scrolls run round the flared square foot, and a faint brown wash on the rims gives the surface an aged look.

The outline goes back to the flower pyramids made in Delft in the 1690s, stacked vases of tin-glazed earthenware with costly cut flowers set in every spout; the Rijksmuseum traces the design to the court of William and Mary. Amélie follows that form in porcelain rather than earthenware, its kaolin and petuntse body high-fired to a dense, hard finish.

The three sections lift apart for filling and cleaning, and the vase is sold singly. On a dining-room dresser it holds one anemone or ranunculus in each spout, the flowers climbing in steps towards the gourd at the top.

Warranty

All our products carry a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
