These white marble carved elephant statues carry stately obelisks of yellow carved marble on their backs. The Grand Tour Style pair carries a deeper symbolism that goes back to both Egyptian and Roman culture. The elephant as a symbol stands for intellectual strength and stability according to Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680).

These old concepts are subtly interwoven in these images. The gold leaf saddles add a touch of luxury.

This exquisite pair of marble elephant sculptures captures the grandeur of the Grand Tour tradition. Each elephant, carved from fine white marble, supports an obelisk in richly veined woodstone marble — a composition that evokes the timeless dialogue between ancient Egypt and classical Rome.

The design recalls Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s celebrated Elephant and Obelisk (Rome, 1667–1668), where the elephant symbolises intellect, strength, and the steadfast pursuit of wisdom. Here, those same ideas are reinterpreted with modern restraint: the animals stand serene and dignified, while the gilded saddles lend a subtle note of opulence.

Meticulously carved and polished by hand, these sculptures are more than decorative objects — they are emblems of cultural curiosity and refined taste. Their balanced proportions and serene expression make them a distinguished accent in both neoclassical and contemporary interiors.
