Large Fishbowl Planter - Blue and White, Fu Dogs

This large hand-painted Chinese porcelain planter is decorated in cobalt blue with playful Fu dogs (Buddhist lions). In the Chinese tradition this form is called a fishbowl, and the Fu dogs stand for protection and harmony.

The porcelain is made from a mix of kaolin and petuntse and fired at 1400°C, giving an extremely hard, fully glazed ceramic with the clear ring of quality porcelain. Hand-modelled animal masks in relief sit on each side as mock handles. The hand-applied antique finish gives the planter an authentic look.

This is an ideal jardinière or cachepot with real presence. The blue and white makes a fine contrast with bright flowers such as sunflowers or deep-pink peonies. It also suits a large green houseplant, such as a fern or a ficus. Sold as a single piece.
