Art Deco Side Table – Montclair

The Montclair Art Deco Side Table draws on French furniture design of the 1930s, a period defined by curved lines, symmetry and a refined approach to material selection. The four arched legs that converge beneath the tabletop are characteristic of the era, creating a sense of tension and balance that is both functional and architectural.

The table is finished in rosewood veneer, distinguished by its warm reddish-brown tone and darker linear markings that flow across the surface. During the interwar period, rosewood was highly prized for its rich grain and its ability to reflect light with subtle depth. For the Montclair, the veneer is hand-cut and book-matched, allowing the grain pattern to align in a calm, rhythmic composition.

The square tabletop features a delicate inlaid border: a restrained intarsia frame that defines the surface without overpowering it. A soft sheen is achieved through a carefully built-up lacquer finish, which protects the wood while enhancing its natural colour and character.

Each Montclair is entirely handcrafted by skilled cabinetmakers versed in traditional Art Deco techniques. Curved elements are built up in layers, veneers are applied under tension, and the final surface is achieved through multiple stages of polishing and lacquering.

The Montclair may be used as a side table beside an armchair, as a low display stand for a bronze sculpture, or as a refined accent within a seating area. Its compact proportions and expressive legs allow it to integrate effortlessly into both historic interiors and contemporary spaces where craftsmanship and material quality take centre stage.
