A pair of hand-painted Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jars, each decorated with a coiled five-clawed imperial dragon amid clouds and waves. The design is executed in deep cobalt blue under a clear glaze, using traditional brushwork techniques.

The dragon, a central symbol in Chinese art since the Han and Ming dynasties, represents power, prosperity, and good fortune. Its depiction with five claws traditionally denotes imperial authority, once reserved for the Emperor. Surrounding cloud and wave motifs evoke the dragon’s command over the natural elements of water and rain.

Ginger jars originated during the Qin dynasty (221–207 BCE) as vessels for spices and precious goods, later evolving into highly decorative export porcelains admired in Europe from the 17th century onward.

Today, these jars serve as timeless interior accents — equally at home in classic or contemporary settings. Their symmetrical form and strong blue-white contrast add cultural depth, balance, and visual serenity to console tables, mantels, or display shelves.
